A&M’s LaQue Moen-Davis earns SEC Freshman of the Week honor

BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M’s LaQue Moen-Davis earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors after winning the triple jump competition at the Texas A&M Invitational with a conference leading mark of 43 feet, 7.25 inches (13.29).

Moen-Davis led an Aggie 1-5 finish in the event as she climbed to No. 3 on the A&M all-time list. On the current collegiate for 2013 she ranks third in the triple jump and is fourth in the long jump with a best of 20-11.25 (6.38), which ranks second in the SEC. Currently Moen-Davis is the best combination jumper heading the conference meet.

On the Aggie all-time indoor list Moen-Davis only trails Adrien Sawyer (21-2.75) in the long jump as well as Yasmine Regis (44-4.25) and Detrich Clariett (43-7.75) in the triple jump.

SEC men’s Runner of the Week honors went to Caleb Cross of Arkansas, while the men’s Field Athlete of the Week was Florida’s Marquis Dendy. Alabama’s Elias Hakansson claimed the men’s Freshman of the Week honor. The women’s Runner of the Week was Regina George of Arkansas while the Field Athlete of the Week is South Carolina’s Jeannelle Scheper.

UPDATED USTFCCCA NATIONAL RANKINGS
Texas A&M men are No. 4 and the Aggie women are No. 8 in the latest version of the national team computer rankings released by United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The Aggies have a weekend off from competition as they prepare the SEC Indoor Championships, held February 22-24, in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

In the men’s rankings Arkansas remains No. 1 followed by Florida, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Penn State, Texas Tech, Nebraska, Oregon, Texas and Indiana among the top 10.

LSU moved into the women’s No. 1 position and are followed by Arkansas, Clemson, Kansas, Oregon, Florida, Georgia, Texas A&M, Central Florida and Iowa State in the top 10.
