COLLEGE STATION -- Texas A&M begins fall practice next week as they continue to get ready for life in the SEC, and Kevin Sumlin is turning to an old mentor for advice.
Sumlin heads into the new league a bit blind as he adjusts to Texas A&M, and says advice is harder to come by heading into the SEC than it was when he coached Houston in conference USA.
"You know it's kind of funny I haven't gotten much advice. When I coached at other places, when I was the Coach at Houston, I called all kinds of people to give me advice. And now I don't get a whole bunch of advice anymore. I think the advice they give me now is to figure it out on your own. Probably the closest person I talk to now is R.C. Slocum because he's around town. Obviously he was the head coach when I was here ten years ago. You know he's a guy that gives, really a sounding board on a lot of different levels."
The Aggies report to fall camp on August 2 and will hold their first practice August 3.
