COLUMBIA, S.C. --- The Texas A&M women’s swimming and diving team opened its 2012-13 season with dominating dual meet wins over South Carolina and North Carolina on Saturday at the Carolina Natatorium on the USC campus.

Looking very much like the veteran team that they are, the Aggies won both relays and 10 individual events to log a 190-102 win over the Gamecocks and a 174.5-123.5 victory over the Tarheels.

Leading the way for the Aggies with two individual wins were senior Tess Simpson and junior Breeja Larson, who both swept their specialties. Simpson was victorious in the 100-yard backstroke in 55.32 and 200-yard backstroke in 1:58.47, while Larson grabbed wins in the 100 breast in 59.88 and the 200 breast in 2:10.90.

The Aggies dominated several events, taking the top three spots in the 50 freestyle and the 3-meter dive. In the 50 free, Erica Dittmer won in a time of 23.56, followed by Sammie Bosma (23.63) and Lili Ibanez (23.72). In the 3-meter, Rebecca St. Germain narrowly edged teammate Jessica Macauley, 302.40-301.80 with Cherie Hammond taking third (281.55). A&M grabbed the top two spots in the 200 IM with Sarah Henry winning in 2:02.26 and Dittmer finishing in 2:04.06.

In perhaps the most impressive performance, A&M finished 1-2 in the 200-yard medley relay with the Aggies’ “A” relay of Tess Simpson, Larson, Paige Miller and Carole McElhany grabbing gold in 1:40.84 and the “B” squad of Katherine Huff, Ashley McGregor, Bosma and Dittmer finishing second in 1:43.99.

Other Aggies grabbing individual wins were Cammile Adams in the 200 butterfly (1:59.55) and McElhany in the 100 butterfly (54.53). The Aggies closed out the meet with the foursome of Kelli Benjamin, Meredith Oliver, Christine Regone and Ibanez winning the 400 free relay in 3:23.87.
