OPELIKA, AL -- A judge has revoked the bond of a University of Alabama fan charged with poisoning Auburn University's landmark oak trees in a fit of football rivalry.
Harvey Updyke was taken into custody following a brief court hearing Thursday in Lee County.
Circuit Judge Jacob A. Walker III revoked Updyke's bond because he was arrested earlier this month after a dispute in a Louisiana store. The judge then scheduled a hearing later Thursday on whether the revocation will stand.
Updyke faces trial next month on charges of poisoning the Auburn trees. He recently got two new defense lawyers.
Defense lawyer Margaret Brown told Walker the lawyers had not had time to review the tree case. She said they will file several motions soon about the location and timing of the trial.
