BIRMINGHAM, Alabama - Texas A&M sophomore guard Courtney Walker was named SEC Women's Basketball Player of the Week after helping Texas A&M to wins over No. 8 South Carolina and Mississippi State this past week.
Walker is the first A&M player to win SEC Player of the Week this season.
Walker led the Aggies in scoring for both of their wins this week, wins that extended A&M's winning streak to eight consecutive games and extended A&M's home winning streak to 10 consecutive games.
The Edmond, Okla. native hit a key shot with 58 seconds remaining in overtime to extend Texas A&M’s lead to four as they would defeat No. 8 South Carolina 67-65 on Thursday, the Aggies’ third straight ranked win. She also led the team with 16 points against Mississippi State on Sunday.
Walker averaged 17.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals for the week, and has scored in double figures in four consecutive games.
Arkansas' Jessica Jackson was named SEC Freshman of the Week.
The Aggies return to action on Thursday, January 23 at 7 p.m. at Missouri. Texas A&M returns to Reed Arena on Sunday, January 26 at 3 p.m. for the historic first-ever visit of the Tennessee Lady Vols, a game broadcast on ESPN2.
