Day Named SEC Defensive Player of the Week

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M Soccer sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Day was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.

It marked the fourth consecutive week that an Aggie earned one of the league's three weekly awards. Allie Bailey and Annie Kunz earned SEC Offensive Player of the Week accolades on Sept. 3 and 10, respectively. Last Monday, Rachel Lenz was tabbed the SEC Defensive Player of the Week.

Day continued her historic run between the pipes for Texas A&M. She recorded a pair of shutouts on the weekend to match the SEC record with seven consecutive shutouts. She equaled the string set by South Carolina’s Mollie Patton in 2009. Day’s scoreless string currently stands at 696 minutes. On Friday, the Gilbert, Ariz.-native blanked defending SEC regular-season champion South Carolina in a 2-0 win. On Sunday, Day kept the defending SEC tournament champion Auburn scoreless with four saves as the Aggies triumphed 2-0.

This season, Day has recorded eight shutouts and she’s one shy of the nine she tallied as a freshman in 2011. Her 0.27 goals-against average ranks second among all NCAA Division I players and leads the SEC.

Day earned a conference weekly recognition for the second time in her career. She garnered Big 12 Newcomer of the Week once in 2011.

The Aggies (10-1-0) attempt to stretch their win streak to 10 games on Friday when they travel to Lexington, Ky., for a 6 p.m. Central match against the Kentucky Wildcats.
