New Haven, CT – The Walter Camp Football Foundation has announced its Football Bowl Subdivision National Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, presented by Generation UCAN (http://www.generationucan.com/waltercamp), for games ending October 13.
About the Award: This is the ninth year that the Walter Camp Football Foundation will honor one offensive and one defensive player as its national Football Bowl Subdivision player of the week during the regular season. Recipients are selected by a panel of national media members and administered by the Foundation.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
JOHNNY MANZIEL, TEXAS A&M
Redshirt Freshman, Quarterback, Kerrville, TX/Tivy
Texas A&M redshirt freshman Johnny Manziel set a SEC-record with 576 yards of total offense as the 22nd-ranked Aggies defeated 23rd-ranked Louisiana Tech, 59-57. Manziel passed for 395 yards (24-of-40) and three touchdowns, while rushing for 181 more and three additional scores. With the win, Texas A&M improved to 5-1.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
KHASEEM GREENE, RUTGERS
Senior, Linebacker, Elizabeth, NJ/Avon Old Farms
Rutgers senior linebacker Khaseem Greene totaled 14 tackles, including 1.5 quarterback sacks, forced three fumbles and intercepted one passes as the 19th-ranked Scarlet Knights defeated Syracuse, 23-15. Greene’s play helped Rutgers, which is off to its best start since 2006, improve to 6-0, 3-0 in the Big East.

Walter Camp, “The Father of American football,” first selected an All-America team in 1889. Camp – a former Yale University athlete and football coach – is also credited with developing play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to eleven men per side.
