BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger says he is making a point of testing the Tigers' young cornerbacks who are trying to fill in for dismissed star Tyrann Mathieu.
The Tigers held a scrimmage Saturday as they sought to move past the sudden departure of the 2011 Heisman Trophy candidate and Bednarik Award winner known as the Honey Badger. The 20-year-old Mathieu was dismissed just before his junior season for violating athletic department policies, and freshman Jalen Mills took his spot in the scrimmage.
Mettenberger says LSU remains strong despite the loss of one of its best players, and all team goals remain the same.
Veteran offensive lineman Josh Dworaczyk says forging ahead when adversity strikes is what LSU always does, and this year will be no different.
