Birmingham, Ala. -- BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- Texas A&M’s women’s basketball team was selected to finish fourth in the Southeastern Conference in a poll of a select panel of both SEC and national media members.
The Aggies, who won the 2013 SEC Tournament Championship, posted an 11-5 conference record in 2012-13, finishing in fourth place. Tennessee, who visits Reed Arena on Jan. 26, was selected the favorite by the voters, and boasts the league’s Preseason Player of the Year in Meighan Simmons. The voters tabbed Kentucky to finish second and LSU to finish third.
Texas A&M went 25-10 in 2012-13, reaching the NCAA Tournament for the eighth consecutive year. Hall of Fame head coach Gary Blair welcomes back local product senior Karla Gilbert (College Station, Texas) as well as SEC All-Freshman team guard Courtney Walker, who averaged 10.4 points per game as a rookie a year ago.
The 2013-14 SEC Media Preseason Poll tips off SEC Basketball Media Days, October 16-17 at The Westin Birmingham. The SEC Women’s Basketball Coaches Poll will be released on Tuesday, November 5.
Texas A&M holds its annual Maroon & White Scrimmage on Oct. 23, and begins the regular season on Nov. 11 at North Texas.
