OXFORD, Miss. -- Mississippi quarterback Bo Wallace was a pleasant surprise during his debut last weekend, and first-year coach Hugh Freeze said the seemingly endless stream of methodical, accurate passes was no accident.
If he has his way, it will happen again when the Rebelshost UTEP on Saturday at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
So good, that the 25 of 31 completion rate (80.6 percent) was the highest mark for the Rebels since the famed Eli Manning managed the exact same numbers against Middle Tennessee in 2001. Wallace completed 20 of 24 passes while backup Barry Brunetti completed 5 of 7.
Nobody's going to confuse Wallace or Brunetti for Manning anytime soon, but it's an early indication that Freeze's quick-hit offense is taking hold quickly.
