2012 SEC Volleyball Awards Announced, Two Aggies All-SEC First-Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Southeastern Conference announced its 2012 Volleyball All-SEC Awards and the University of Florida’s Chloe Mann was named the SEC Player of the Year. The University of Kentucky’s Stephanie Klefot was named Libero of the Year and Florida’s Živa Recek was selected as Freshman of the Year. Arkansas’ Amanda Anderson garnered Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors while Florida’s Mary Wise was tabbed as Coach of the Year.

Mann becomes the 17th Florida Gator to earn Player of the Year honors. She helped lead UF to its 20th SEC title and is tops in the league in hitting efficiency with 346 kills on 648 swings (.437). Mann is the only player hitting above .400 in the SEC and ranks fifth in the NCAA in hitting percentage. A preseason all-conference nominee, Mann was named SEC Player of the Week on October 22 for her efforts against Alabama and Texas A&M.

The Libero of the Year was awarded to Klefot for the third consecutive year. She averaged 4.09 digs per set in conference play and ranks fourth in the SEC in career digs with 1,885. A 2011 AVCA All-America second team selection, Klefot is also second on the all-time digs list at UK (1,736).This is the third Libero of the Year honor for the Wildcats and their fifth Defensive Player of the Year award overall.

Florida’s Recek claimed Freshman of the Year honors as the league’s top rookie. Recek leads Florida in kills with 409 (4.05/set) and ranks top five in the SEC in kills and points per set (4.50). She was a three-time SEC Freshman of the Week selection and is the first Gator to earn Freshman of the Year honors since Kelly Murphy in 2008.

Anderson, the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology (P-12 physical education) in three years with a 3.839 GPA. She has a 3.75 GPA as a graduate student while pursuing a master's degree in recreation/sport management. Anderson averaged 2.20 kills and 0.74 blocks per set on the court this season and has 10 matches with a .400 hitting percentage or better (min. five kills).

By guiding Florida to the SEC regular season title with a 25-4, 19-1 conference record, Wise claimed her 13th SEC Coach of the Year honor. The Gators lead the SEC and rank third in the nation in offensive efficiency and are tops in the conference in service aces per set (1.43). Florida is 14th in the current NCAA RPI rankings and the Gators earned the SEC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with their SEC title.

The All-SEC First and Second, and All-Freshmen Teams were also announced. The first and second teams are nine-member teams voted on by the league coaches while the freshmen team has seven members named to it. No ties are broken. First team selections were led by Florida with four members, followed by Texas A&M with two.
