SAN DIEGO-- The Texas A&M media relations office brought home several publication honors, including five Best in the Nation Awards, at the annual College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Workshop held earlier this week in San Diego, California.
“This has been an outstanding year for the Texas A&M athletics department and Building Champions is an attitude in everything we do at Texas A&M,” Alan Cannon, associate athletic director for media relations, said. “I am very proud of our sports information staff and to be recognized by our peers is great. I have the best staff in the country who work well as a team. The media relations staff has a tremendous reputation for being helpful with the media and interacting with our coaches and student-athletes.”
“To receive accolades from CoSIDA is nice, but the most important thing is putting together a publication that is beneficial for our coaches, student-athletes and administrators, as well as being useful to the media,” Cannon added. “We will continue to strive to get better in every area.”
The women’s soccer guide produced by Niki Janecka and Cyndi Mousner, received Best in the Nation honors as well as Best in District VI.
The women’s swimming and diving guide produced by Chris Harrell, Jenna Wheeler and Mousner and finished Best in the Nation.
The women’s equestrian guide produced by Harrell, Mousner and Mary Schwarz
The men’s basketball publication received Best in the Nation as well as Best Cover in a special events program division. The design, writing and editing for the publication was handled by Colin Killian. He was assisted by Mousner.
The women’s tennis guide produced by Debbie Darrah, Chuck Glenewinkel and Mousner finished second in the country.
The women’s softball guide was judged fourth in the country and was produced by Janecka and Mousner.
The awards are selected by a special panel of media representatives and presented at the annual CoSIDA Workshop.
“We receive great support from our Director of Athletics Bill Byrne and the administration,” Cannon said. “Celeste Phillips does a great job of assisting our office in the bid process and making sure we receive a quality publication.”
Members of the award-winning staff include publications coordinator Cyndi Mousner and photographer Glen Johnson. Associate athletic director for media relations Alan Cannon, associate sports information director Colin Killian, and assistant sports information directors Debbie Darrah, Chuck Glenewinkel, Chris Harrell, Nicole Janecka, Brad Marquardt, Marlene Navor and Shawn Price. Senior office assistant Jackie Thornton is a great asset as well as the help of student assistants Bryan Blake, Torie Brown, Brian DeSpain, Katie Harrell, Hailey Janecka, Marshall Morris, Casey Walling, Mary Schwarz and Jenna Wheeler.
