A&M's Crow and SMU's LeVias Join NFL Concussion Suit

Former Texas A&M star John David Crow and Southwest Conference black pioneer Jerry LeVias are among 27 former National Football League players who have joined other NFL retirees in a lawsuit against the league.

Crow won the Heisman Trophy in 1957; LeVias became, in 1965 at SMU, the first black football scholarship recipient from a Southwest Conference school. They and 25 others joined a federal lawsuit filed by Beaumont lawyer Matthew Matheny on behalf of more than 150 ex-players. It alleges the NFL did too little to inform players of concussion dangers and care for players left impaired as a result.

The league has said any allegation it intentionally misled players is meritless.

An AP review of 81 lawsuits filed through May 25 found 3,356 plaintiffs, including 2,138 ex-players.
