COLLEGE STATION, TX -- As part of its continuing network investment to support growing demand for advanced wireless devices and services, AT&T* today announced it has expanded its mobile broadband coverage at Texas A&M University with the installation of a new Distributed Antenna System (DAS) to serve customers attending Aggie football games and other events at Kyle Field.
The DAS installation consists of 185 strategically-placed antenna locations that distribute AT&T’s wireless network coverage throughout the stadium, providing for more efficient management of wireless capacity in heavily-trafficked areas. Additional antennas were also recently placed in Reed Arena, and AT&T will also deploy DAS in Olsen Field in advance of the 2012 baseball season.
The additional capacity is expected to help improve call reliability and enable more consistent network access to help customers make the most of their AT&T devices. DAS can provide enhanced wireless coverage to customers in indoor or outdoor spaces where geographical limitations – terrain, building construction, etc. – or crowd density might otherwise prevent an optimal wireless experience.
“We want our customers to have a great network experience whatever they’re doing – whether that’s making a call, checking e-mail, downloading apps or surfing the Internet,” said Chris Penrose, vice president and general manager, AT&T South Texas. “We’re committed to our investment in the local wireless network, and providing enhanced wireless coverage at Texas A&M is just one way that we’re investing in south Texas.”
“We’ve worked with AT&T to bring enhanced wireless services to fans attending Aggie football games at Kyle Field,” said Walt Magnussen, director of telecommunications, Texas A&M University. “With virtually every fan bringing a wireless device to Aggie events, the DAS goes a long way in providing increased bandwidth to help AT&T customers connect and share the most exciting moments of the game.”
