COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- The No. 6 Texas A&M equestrian team kicks off the 2013-14 season with its annual Maroon & White Scrimmage, Friday at the Brazos County Expo Complex.
The action will begin at noon with both hunter seat events competing simultaneously in the south arena. Horsemanship will also start at noon, in the warm up arena, with reining following in the same arena at about 2 p.m. All times are Central. The annual intra-squad matchup is free and open to the public.
“We have a little over three weeks of practice under our belts, so it will be really nice to see all of the riders in action on Friday,” Head Coach Tana McKay said. “We have several of our top riders from last year returning, and are adding a great group of newcomers to the mix. I’m really looking forward to starting a new season and to the challenging schedule we will face.”
The Aggies welcome 15 newcomers to a roster filled with 37 letterwinners from the 2012-13 season. Among the returning student-athletes are 2013 NCEA All-American Molli Jacobs, All-SEC selection Laura Sumrall and SEC All-Freshman team members Hannah Jechow, Marlena Parker, Logan Pluhar and Hannah Williams.
The season will officially begin next Saturday for Texas A&M when the team faces off at No. 5 Kansas State. To learn more about Texas A&M equestrian, log on to AggieAthletics.com and follow @AggieEquestrian on Twitter.
