COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- The No. 25 Texas A&M men’s golf team heads to Awendaw, S.C., this weekend to participate in the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate, hosted by Clemson, South Carolina and the College of Charleston as well as supported by the famous rock/pop band Hootie & the Blowfish.

Known for such songs as “Only Wanna Be with You” and “Hold My Hand,” the band has promoted the tournament since 2005. Consisting of three rounds over three days, the event takes place on the Maverick Course at the Bulls Bay Club, a par-72, 7,282-yard course.

“To be honest, we need to get some wins,” Texas A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. “We need a good finish. I think we have learned the process we need to go through to get that done. It’s a good golf course for us and we have been successful there in the past. We know the course pretty well and we know how to play it so we are more confident there. I think we need to go there and get as many wins as possible.”

The Aggies are returning to the links after finishing fifth at the Don Puckette National Invitational Tournament in Tucson, Ariz., last weekend. The top finisher for the Aggies was senior Drew Evans, who finished ninth individually with a score of two-under par, his fourth top-10 finish of the season.

In addition to Evans, the Aggies will be represented this weekend in the Palmetto State by Cameron Peck, Johannes Veerman, Ben Crancer and Greg Yates.

The tournament officially starts Sunday morning, with Friday and Saturday consisting of practice rounds and events involving Hootie & the Blowfish, including a concert Saturday night. Live scoring for the event will be available at GolfStat.com.

“Three-day events are nice because there is more down time,” Higgins added. “The guys can get a little extra studying in or just relax a little bit more. Getting to go to the Hootie & the Blowfish concert on Saturday night is a pretty big treat. Charleston is a fun town and the venue they have the concert at is really night. For some of the guys this will be their third time at the tournament so over the years they’ve actually got to know some of the guys in the band so that is really neat.”
