COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 14 Texas A&M soccer team will play its annual Maroon & White match Friday at 7 p.m. at Ellis Field.
The intra-squad scrimmage is FREE to the public and will consist of two 20-minute halves. The match will be the team’s first showing in front of a home crowd this season.
Fans are encouraged to attend for their first glimpse at the 2012 team, which includes 18 letterwinners and eight returning starters from the 2011 Big 12 Championship team.
In the Aggies’ first season in the Southeastern Conference (SEC), four freshmen will join the mix. The A&M soccer class of 2016 consists of Janae Cousineau (San Clemente, Calif.), Kristi Leonard (League City, Texas), Karlie Mueller (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and Jackie Tondl (Omaha, Neb.).
The Aggies were picked to finish first in the SEC Western Division and to finish second overall in the SEC by conference coaches. Top Drawer Soccer’s Preseason Tournament 64 List put the Aggies at fifth in the nation, and the publication’s SEC Top 20 List ranked three A&M players in the top 10, including No. 1 Kelley Monogue.
A&M kicks off the 2012 season at UC Irvine on Monday, Aug. 20, and plays a Wednesday game at San Diego before returning to the Lone Star State for the Aggies’ home opener.
