COLLEGE STATION, TX -- Preparing to head into its flagship season in the Southeastern Conference, the Texas A&M soccer team will begin fall practice Friday at Ellis Field.
The Aggies’ two-a-day practices will feature 6 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. sessions. Practices are open to the media and the public.
"We are all looking forward to getting started with our preseason training camp,” head coach G Guerrieri said. “We have a talented group of players and a lot of excitement swirling around the program about the upcoming season and the new challenges ahead."
The Aggies, who won their 12th-and-final Big 12 Championship at the conference’s 2011 tournament, return eight starters from last year’s squad.
Highlighting the 2012 team are three 2011 All-Big 12 first team selections in sophomore Kelley Monogue, senior Beth West and junior Rachel Lenz, and second team honoree sophomore Meghan Streight.
Monogue also took Freshman All-America honors and was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year and the Rookie of the Year, while joining Streight and Annie Kunz on the conference All-Newcomer Team.
Also returning to the starting lineup are seniors Lyndsey Gnatzig, Chelsea Jones and Nora Skelton, and sophomore Jordan Day.
Four new faces were added to the mix as incoming freshmen Janae Cousineau (San Clemente, Calif.), Kristi Leonard (League City, Texas), Karlie Mueller (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and Jackie Tondl (Omaha, Neb.) signed national letters of intent in February.
Fans can now purchase season tickets to see the Aggies in action. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Zone at Kyle Field box office, by phone at (979) 845-2311 or 1-888-99-AGGIE, or online at www.12thManFoundation.com.
The Aggies will begin play in front of the home crowd with the annual Maroon & White exhibition match on Friday, August 17, at 7 p.m. A&M will officially kick off the 2012 season on the road with a west-coast road trip to UC Irvine (August 20) and San Diego (August 22). The regular-season home opener will take place on Saturday, August 25 against UTSA at 7 p.m.
