Aggie Men Finish Second at Big 12 Swimming & Diving

COLUMBIA, Mo. --- The Texas A&M men’s swimming and diving team finished second in its final Big 12 Championships on Saturday at the Mizzou Aquatic Center.

The Aggies scored 822 points to earn runner-up honors behind the No. 2-ranked Texas Longhorns (1,014.5 points). Host Missouri finished third with 750.5 points.

Prior to the evening swimming finals, coach Jay Lerew’s dive crew contributed solid points in the platform dive. The trio of Antonio Page-Kahn, Paul Xiques and Matt McKinnerney took places 4-5-6 to collectively score 39 points. Kahn led the way with 264.55 points, while Xiques had 252.8 and McKinnerney had 236.85.

Aggies scored 45 points in the 200 backstroke with Paul-Marc Schweitzer, John Ariens and Simon Frank grabbing places 5-6-7 in the Championship final. The trio of Aggies finished in 1:46.47, 1:46.89 and 1:46.96, respectively.

Three Aggies contributed 41 points in the 100 freestyle with John Dalton taking third in 44.30, Kyle Troskot finishing fifth in 44.84 and Austin Wilson coming in eighth in 45.29.

A&M got a breakthrough swim from freshman Luke Shaw in the 1,650 freestyle with a fifth place with an NCAA “B” cut time of 15:27.49. The swim put Shaw at No. 5 on the Aggies’ top 10 performers list behind Omar Enriquez, Tim Campbell, Patrick Dideum and Rick Walker. Junior John McClure took eighth with a time of 15:56.11.

Amini Fonua swam to a lifetime best in the 200 breaststroke while finishing fourth in a NCAA “B” cut time of 1:58.24. John Wagner took seventh in 2:01.29.

Boris Loncaric took third in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:46.38, and Max Lewis was sixth in 1:50.29.

The Aggies closed out the competition with a runner-up effort in the 400 free relay after dueling stroke-for-stroke with the Texas Longhorns. The foursome of Dalton, Henrik Lindau, Troskot and Loncaric touched in a season-best and NCAA “B” cut of 2:54.16.
