COLLEGE STATION, TX -- The Big 12 Champion Texas A&M soccer team will host Sam Houston State Thursday at 7 p.m. in a spring friendly at Ellis Field.

The Aggies, who defeated Rice in the spring opener on Sunday, will face off with the Bearkats in an exhibition game that is FREE to the public.

Sam Houston State was the No. 6 seed in the Southland Conference (SLC) Tournament in 2011, falling in a penalty-kick shootout after a 1-1 draw with second-seeded Texas State. The Bearkats ended the season with a 9-12-1 record in their third-ever SLC Tournament semifinal appearance. Sophomore Tricia Mallory led the team with 21 points on five assists and eight goals this season, and netted a pair of game winners. Sophomore Emily Edenstrom also scored two game-winning goals and ranked second among the team’s offense with 11 points on five goals and an assist. Senior Michele McCullough started in 15 matches and spent 1,317 minutes in goal, racking up 31 saves for four shutouts as she allowed just six goals by SHSU opponents.

The No. 21 (NSCAA Final) Aggies made their 17th straight NCAA Tournament appearance in 2011 after winning a 12th-and-final Big 12 title at the conference tournament. The team ended 2011 in the NCAA Second Round with a 16-6-2 record.

All of the Aggies’ spring matches are FREE to the public, and parking at Reed Arena is also FREE, barring a conflict with baseball. To learn more about Texas A&M soccer, log on to AggieAthletics.com or follow @AggieSoccer on Twitter.
