COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M soccer team was named one of the Five Colleges to Watch in 2012 by Top Drawer Soccer recently.
The No. 12 Aggies (RPI Final) joined four other successful programs that have never reached the College Cup but look promising in 2012. The outlet put emphasis on sophomores Kelley Monogue and Annie Kunz as players who could take the program to a new level. For the complete article, click here.
The Aggies joined Oklahoma State, Long Beach State, Memphis and Georgia on the list of schools to watch. The team hosts Long Beach State on Sept. 7 and Georgia on Oct. 21. The Aggies have a long history with Big 12 foe OSU, ending in a 1-0 A&M victory for the conference tournament title last November.
A&M has earned 17 postseason appearances and four Elite Eight finishes under decorated head coach G Guerrieri. The Aggies ended their 12-year stint in the Big 12 with a 12th-and-final conference championship at the Big 12 Tournament. The team joins the Southeastern Conference (SEC) for its rookie season in August.
The Aggies return 19 letterwinners and eight starters from the 2011 squad, and welcome a crop of five freshmen. After the Aug. 17 Maroon & White game, the Aggies travel to California, to open the season at UC Irvine on Aug. 20. The team’s home opener is on Aug. 25 vs. UTSA at Ellis Field.
