COLLEGE STATION, TX -- The Big 12 Champion Texas A&M soccer team takes its only road trip of the spring season this weekend, heading to Farmers Branch, Texas, to face reigning Sun Belt Champion North Texas in a friendly match.

The Aggies and Mean Green will face off at 1 p.m. at the Ross Stewart Soccer Complex. Fans in the Dallas-Fort Worth area are encouraged to attend the FREE match to see the two conference champions in action.

"I know a lot of our out-of-town fans are circling the date for our match vs. the University of North Texas up in the Dallas-Fort Worth area over Easter weekend," head coach G Guerrieri said. "This exhibition is being hosted by the Dallas International Girls Cup, which is run in coordination with the Dr. Pepper Dallas Cup, one of the most prestigious international youth tournaments in the world.

"UNT is coming off a great 2011 season, where they won the Sun Belt Conference Championship," Guerrieri said. "Their coach, John Hedlund, is an old friend and former teammate from way back when we were kids growing up in the north Dallas area. And, as an added bonus, the site of the match in Farmers Branch is named after an Aggie and one of the greatest ambassadors of youth soccer in the United States in the 1970s, 80s and 90s - Mr. Ross Stewart.

"That UNT match will be our only road exhibition match of the spring season, so we are looking forward to the opportunity to showcase our team and great players outside of Aggieland.”

UNT won its fourth-ever Sun Belt Regular Season Title in 2011 with a 1-0 win over Denver. Junior defender Kelsey Hodges scored the game-winning goal from beyond midfield on a free kick. The Mean Green finished the season in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament semifinals with a 14-4-3 record and an 8-1-1 conference mark. Michelle Young led the team offensively in 2011, netting 13 goals, four of them game winners, and contributing three assists for 29 points. Jackie Kerestine spent 1785:30 in goal, grabbing 72 saves for 11 shutouts while giving up 14 goals.

The No. 21 (NSCAA Final) Aggies made their 17th straight NCAA Tournament appearance in 2011 after winning a 12th-and-final Big 12 title at the conference tournament. The team ended 2011 in the NCAA Second Round with a 16-6-2 record.

This spring, A&M is 2-0. All of the Aggies' spring matches are FREE to the public. To learn more about Texas A&M soccer, log on to AggieAthletics.com or follow @AggieSoccer on Twitter.
