AMES, Iowa - The 14th-ranked Texas A&M softball team (27-11, 7-3 Big 12) dropped the series finale to Iowa State (12-24, 1-8 Big 12) Saturday with a 2-1 loss at the Southwest Athletic Complex.

The Aggies won the first two matchups of the three-game series and took a 2-1 series victory over the Cyclones. This is the third series victory in as many complete series for A&M this season.

"I thought [Iowa State pitcher Tori] Torrescano did a really great job," head coach Jo Evans said. "I just thought our approach at the plate was bad today. She threw strikes when she had to. She played some great defense out there. Their defense was really solid. They made every play that they should make. I just didn't think that we had a great plan at the plate."

Three walks and a base hit by the Cyclones walked in the first run of the game in the bottom of the first with only one out. The Aggies quickly ousted the next two batters, though and pulled themselves out of a bases-loaded situation.

A pair of back-to-back A&M doubles in the top of the third evened the score at 1-1. Junior Brittany Walker reached second on a long ball to left field and was replaced on the bags by sophomore Kaydee Rayburn. A second double in as many at bats, by senior Kelsea Orsak, scored Rayburn for the equalizer.

In the bottom of the fifth, a single, a wild pitch and an RBI double by Iowa State designated player Amandine Habben pushed the Cyclones back up to a 2-1 lead.

Trailing by one in the top of the seventh, the Aggies looked for a rally. Senior Kelsea Orsak drew a walk with one out but was left stranded on the third out as Iowa State earned its first conference victory of the season, a 2-1 win over A&M.

Dumezich (19-8) suffered the loss for the Aggies, walking two batters and giving up two earned runs on five hits while striking out four in six innings. ISU's Tori Torrescano (7-16) earned the win after giving up one earned run on three hits and striking out four in seven complete innings of work.

"When your bats aren't going you've got to do everything you can to control the game," Evans said. "[Mel] did a good job, actually to get out of that [first inning] without more runs being scored. The difference in the game right now is that she throws a wild pitch and gives up the hit that scores the winning run. It's the little things. You've got to pay attention to detail and you've got to be able to play the game."
