COLLEGE STATION, Texas—After discussions between athletics department officials, university officials and several Texas A&M student groups, a registration process is in place to accommodate the anticipated student demand for 2012 Aggie football tickets.

“We visited with student leaders and asked for their input on how to approach the anticipated high demand for the 30,284 student ticket allotment for Aggie football games,” Texas A&M Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Operations Jeff Schmahl said. “We hold the largest percentage of seats for students in the country. (30,284 of the capacity of 83,002) The overwhelming sentiment was to give first priority to those students who have supported Aggie football the past couple of years. Once that registration is finished, we will have a better handle on the remaining number of tickets available for incoming freshmen and transfers as well as students who have not purchased tickets the past two years.”

Texas A&M athletics has scheduled registration dates for the 2012-13 sports options. Those Texas A&M students who purchased a sports option for either the 2010-11 academic year or the 2011-12 academic year are eligible to register for their 2012-13 sports option beginning on Monday, Apr. 16 and ending on Friday, Apr. 27. Registration for 2012-13 sports options will be open in mid-May for students who did not have a sports option during either of the last two academic years.
“Student Body President-elect John Claybrook and I are excited and join with our fellow students in anticipation of our inaugural season in the SEC,” Texas A&M Student Body President Jeff Pickering said. “Standing as the 12th Man is an experience all students, including incoming freshmen, graduate and transfer students, should have the opportunity to enjoy. The consensus formed through discussions from the Student Senate and the Corps of Cadets was to first honor the investment of students from previous seasons. Next, it is crucial to our tradition to include incoming freshmen with all other students in the second registration phase allowing all students who want to stand as the 12th Man in Kyle Field the opportunity to do so.”

The all-sports option costs $350 and includes prepaid admission to all regular season home events. The football only option is $225. Aggie athletics will continue to offer the all sports without football option for $175.

Eligible students can register for their 2012-13 sport option at mysportspass.tamu.edu. Students can check their eligibility by logging into mysportspass.tamu.edu beginning on Monday, Apr. 16.
No payment is required at the time of registration. Students sports options are billed through Student Financial Services. Fee statements are released in early August.

Information regarding registration dates for enrolling freshmen, transfer students, new graduate students as well as returning students not eligible for this first phase registration period Apr. 16-27 will be released on, or about, May 3. Should demand for student tickets exceed the allotment of 30,284, a plan is being established that will allow remaining students to purchase a “partial season sports pass” whereby they could attend three or four football games in the fall.
Last fall on Aug. 30, registration for student football options was suspended. Texas A&M went on to set a school record for average attendance with 87,183 fans attending the seven home games.
