DALLAS – The Texas A&M volleyball team concluded its spring exhibition season by winning all three of its matches Saturday at the 2012 Lone Star Classic College Showcase at the Dallas Convention Center.

A&M opened the tournament by defeating Texas Arlington, 25-16, 25-13. The Aggies then swept Texas Tech, 25-10, 25-20, to win the three-team Pool 2.

A&M concluded the tournament by defeating Pool 1 winner Texas State, 23-25, 25-11, 15-10.

“I was pleased with our play at the Showcase,” A&M coach Laurie Corbelli said. “We played UTA very tough, focusing on blocking and passing. Then we beat Texas Tech with our fast offense and tough serving. Our last match against Texas State was a great match, and we excelled in our defense and transition game. Overall, the tournament reflected our entire spring season. We improved tremendously in blocking, especially, but also in the speed of attack and our team defense.”

Corbelli, who will be entering her 20th season at the helm of the Aggies this fall, expects to return 10 letterwinners -- including four starters plus the libero -- from the 2011 squad that finished 23-8 after advancing to the NCAA Championship second round. She also will welcome a highly touted freshman class, four of whom have been members of international, national and/or state championship teams, and a fifth who is not only a decorated volleyball athlete, but also is a world class discus thrower in her age group.
