CASTELLANZA, Italy – Senior Kristi Bellock scored 15 points to lead the Texas A&M women’s basketball team to a 101-37 victory over Federazione Italiano Pallacanestro in the final game of the Aggies’ tour of Italy on Saturday evening.

For the third straight game, the Aggies started strong and had a 26-12 lead at the end of the first period, with 8 points from Bellock and 7 from junior Karla Gilbert. A&M extended its lead with a 9-0 run at the beginning of the second period and ended the quarter with an 11-0 run to put the game out of reach at halftime, 54-22.

A&M held FIP to no more than four field goals in any period, including just two in the first and two in the third. In addition, the Aggies held FIP to only 7 points in the third quarter and 8 in the fourth.

“It was kind of hard to play to play this game because of how slick the floor was,” A&M head coach Gary Blair said. “We had to play zone about half the game because we didn’t want to get anyone hurt. We were slipping when we played man-to-man, and we were reaching and fouling because we couldn’t keep our feet. Overall, I’m pleased with the game. We’ll call it a win. We’re ready to get back home and get some American food and sleep in our own beds.”

Four Aggies scored in double figures on the night. Freshmen Peyton Little had 13 points, including four 3-pointers, while Gilbert and junior Kelsey Bone added 11 each. Bone grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds and Gilbert pulled down eight.

Freshmen Courtney Williams contributed 9 points and nine rebounds and freshman Courtney Walker had 9 points and six rebounds. Freshman Jordan Jones dished out eight assists and swiped three steals.

From FIP, no player scored in double figures, but the team was led by Masha Maiorano with 9 points.

A&M concludes its tour of Italy with a 3-1 record and will head back to Aggieland on Sunday morning.

“The team has grown closer (in Italy), but the team is also getting smarter,” Blair said. “This is the most talent we’ve ever had at the guard position since I’ve been here and the talent is pretty much even right now. It’s going to be a very interesting fall to see who comes out of the pack and is ready when we play Louisville, Penn State and Connecticut. Now, it’s time for our kids to rest a little, get to classes and be a regular college student.”
