Aggie Men's Swimming Fall to Gamecocks, Tarheels

COLUMBIA, S.C. --- The Texas A&M men’s swimming and diving team dropped a pair of season-opening dual meets to South Carolina and North Carolina on Saturday at the Carolina Natatorium on the USC campus.

The Aggies fell to the host Gamecocks, 160-140, and the Tarheels, 178.5-121.5.

The Aggies were led by junior diver Hayden Jones, who swept both springboard events. Jones grabbed the win on the 1-meter board with a score of 385.70 and sophomore transfer Ford McLiney was second with a score of 339.30. In the 3-meter, Jones won with 418.20 points and McLiney was third with 376.20 points.

A&M also grabbed individual wins in the 50- and 100-yard free with senior John Dalton and junior Kyle Troskot taking the top two spots in both races. Troskot won the 50 in 20.42 followed by Dalton in 20.58, while Dalton won the 100 free in 45.03 followed by Troskot in 45.42.

The Aggies opened the meet with a strong victory the 200 medley relay with the foursome of freshman Alexandros Theocharidis, junior John Wagner, junior Henrik Lindau and Troskot finishing in 1:32.01.

Junior Omar Enriquez logged a pair of third-place finishes in the 200 butterfly (1:51.31) and the 500 freestyle (4:31.79), and was fourth in the 1,000 free (9:25.63). Junior Henrik Lindau took third in the 100 butterfly with a time of 50.27.

The Aggies closed the meet with a third-place finish in the 400 free relay with the foursome of Dalton, Lindau, Paul-Marc Schweitzer and Enriquez touching the wall in 3:03.84.
