COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M practiced twice Monday, their first two-a-day workout of preseason practice as they continue to prepare for their season opener August 31 against Rice.
Amidst more ESPN allegations of signing memorabilia for money quarterback Johnny Manziel continues to shine on the practice field. Co-Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks coach Jake Spavital said, "I think he's got a chip on his shoulder right now. He comes to work every day and I think he's very excited for the season. The thing that I'm most impressed with right now is he's more focused on the receivers and he's out there coaching as well. He's running with the one's. He's looking good. I'm excited to see what he can do this year but I'm very impressed with how he's handling it with coaching receivers and trying to get things the way he wants it out there."
Freshman Kenny Hill took the second team snaps during the few plays the media was allowed to watch tonight, but head coach Kevin Sumlin said it was for a reason. "We do that fast start just so you guys (the media) can say so and so's the number two quarterback. So and so's the number one quarterback. If you guys have paid attention it really doesn't matter. We're just rotating them."
In the post practice press conference Sumlin told reporters the team would hold a scrimmage Saturday at Kyle Field that would be open to the public. It is likely to begin at 6 p.m.
