COLLEGE STATION, TX – Members of the Texas A&M softball team headed to the Wolf Pen Creek Amphitheater on October 7 to participate in the 9th annual Buddy Walk, in association with the Down Syndrome Association of Brazos Valley.

The Aggies joined Caldwell Elementary School student Audrey Pivonka and her family in the walk that Audrey had been training for.

Here is the email from Audrey’s teacher, Kimmy Anderson:

"I just want to share a real life difference story with you. I am the Special Ed. Teacher at Caldwell Elementary School. One of my students, Audrey Pivonka (9 years), trained hard and participated in the Brazos Valley Down Syndrome Buddy Walk this past Sunday. Audrey is full of personality, unwavering confidence, positive kindness and is a JOY to teach and love every day! As her teacher, I dream of only the best, most amazing life and experiences for Audrey. Sunday, as Audrey and her entire family walked past, the Aggie softball team decided to join in Audrey’s celebration of who she is. The ENTIRE team walked, talked and laughed with joy for Audrey. WOW!!! I am an Aggie; class of 91 and proud of it, BUT on Sunday, I was never more proud!

In a time and season of the new “SEC” and “Big Time Athletics” hype, the Aggie softball team showed the real spirit! The Aggie heart shined brightly Sunday as we chose to honor and walk with the people who truly embody the “beauty of the earth!”

Thank you Aggie Softball team! Y’all will be blessed for choosing to walk with Audrey on Sunday!

Gig’em Aggie Softball,

Kimmy Anderson"
