COLLEGE STATION, TX -- The Texas A&M men’s golf team was recognized nationally Wednesday as the Aggies earned the No. 10 spot on the Golf World/Nike Golf Division I Men’s Preseason Poll.
The poll had a Southeastern Conference flavor as it featured six SEC teams including top-ranked Alabama, sixth-ranked Auburn, eighth-ranked Arkansas, 12th-ranked Florida and 19th-ranked Georgia.
“Five of the top 12 teams in golf are from the SEC,” Texas A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. “We’re looking forward to that challenge. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun as well as super competitive. This league is full of great teams and great coaches and we’re excited to get in there and mix it up with them.”
The Aggie men are coming off an impressive 2011-12 campaign that saw them capture the Big 12 title during their final season in the league and finish 14th at the NCAA Championships, marking the fifth consecutive season A&M has finished in the top 15 nationally.
Texas A&M wastes no time teeing off this fall as it travels to Pebble Beach, Calif., this weekend to take part in The Carmel Cup.
