Aggies Shine at Bulldog Last Chance Meet

ATHENS, Ga. --- A trio of Texas A&M swimmers improved their chances for qualifying for the NCAA Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships with strong performances at the Bulldog Last Chance on the University of Georgia campus.

Grabbing season-bests and NCAA “B” cuts were senior Meagan Hairston and sophomores Ellen Quirke and Emily Neubert. The 2013 NCAA Championships will be contested in Indianapolis March 21-23.

Hairston, from Plano, Texas, posted times of 54.02 in the 100-yard backstroke and 1:55.76 in the 200-yard backstroke. Hairston’s 100 back ranks fifth on the team, while the 200 back time ranks fourth.

Quirke, from Wellington, New Zealand, posted times of 49.94 in the 100 free and 1:47.49 in the 200 free. Quirke’s 100 free ranks No. 6 for the Aggies and her 200 free ranks No. 6.

Neubert, from Waco, Texas, flew to times of 53.73 in the 100 butterfly and 1:58.72 in the 200 fly. Neubert ranks No. 5 in the 100 fly and No. 4 in the 200 fly.

Also in action over the weekend were a number of Aggies at the Speedo Champions Series in College Station (times not eligible for NCAA qualification). Among the impressive results were junior Paige Miller winning the 100 breaststroke in 1:01.29, freshman Claire Brandt taking second in the 100 free in 49.81, sophomore Kelli Benjamin placing second in the women’s 50 free in 22.83, and freshman Riley Marks taking fourth in the 200 back in 1:58.05. On the men’s side, junior Jack Burley placed fourth in the 50 free in 20.68.
