COLLEGE STATION, TX -- Four members of the Texas A&M women’s tennis team will compete this weekend at the 2012 USTA Collegiate Invitational, presented by adidas. The tournament, which will be the final competition of the fall season for most of the athletes, takes place Nov. 2-4 at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center in Portland, Ore.

Aggie seniors Wen Sun and Nazari Urbina and A&M freshmen Stefania Hristov and Anna Mamalat, as well as representatives from Duke, Georgia, UCLA, Michigan, Portland and Washington will be competing in the unique tournament, which also features eight of the best junior players in the country selected from the USTA’s High Performance Program.

“The strong field combined with our opportunity to compete indoors for the first time this year set this event up as a true challenge and an exciting opportunity,” A&M coach Howard Joffe said. “As always, I look for our Aggie ladies to compete ferociously, handle themselves with class and play with passion.”

Sun will pair with Hristov, and Urbina will compete with Mamalat in doubles. All four also will compete in singles.

Updated draws and results will be posted on the tournament website:

The winner of the event will receive a wildcard entry into a USTA Pro Circuit event, which will be designated by USTA Player Development at a later date.

This will be the final competition of the fall season for Sun, Urbina and Mamalat. Hristov heads to New York next weekend to compete in the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships after receiving an automatic entry by winning the doubles championship with Cristina Stancu at the USTA/ITA Texas Regional in Waco, Texas, last month.
