AWENDAW, S.C. -- The 15th-ranked Texas A&M men’s golf team continues its rugged spring schedule this week when the Aggies participate in the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate outside Charleston.
A field of 15 teams will take on the par-72, 7,282-yard Bulls Bay Golf Club, a Mike Strantz-designed course which is set against the Atlantic Ocean. The first round will get underway Sunday at 10 a.m. (ET), followed by a second round on Monday (9 a.m. ET) and the final 18 holes on Tuesday (8 a.m. ET).
A&M is one of four top-25 teams to take the course this week, along with third-ranked Auburn, 18th-ranked LSU and 24th-ranked Virginia. Also in the field are two-time defending national champion Augusta State, along with Kentucky, Maryland, Ole Miss, North Carolina, N.C. State, South Carolina, Wake Forest, Wisconsin, Wofford and the hosts, College of Charleston.
“This one of the most fun tournaments of the year,” head coach J.T. Higgins said. “It is hosted by Hootie and The Blowfish and Bulls Bay is a terrific course. They have just put in new greens, so it will be firm and fast which should be good for us since that’s all we've seen this spring. We have three guys going who have never seen the course before, and Drew is making his debut, so I'm anxious to see how we perform this week against some of the best teams on the East Coast.”
Playing for Texas A&M in the Hootie are senior All-American Jordan Russell (72.33 average), junior All-American Cameron Peck (71.78), senior Geoff Shaw (73.81), freshman Ty Dunlap (73.44) and junior Drew Evans (72.67), who will be playing his first team event of the season.
The Aggies have placed fifth or better in all but one tournament this year and have been steady throughout the spring. A&M followed up a strong fourth-place showing at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters earlier this month with a fourth-place finish at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate in Austin just over a week ago.
