LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - The Texas A&M Aggie football team is leaving the Big 12 for the SEC.

The Aggie coaches want a return to East Texas.

"We have a great history and past of guys who have come to Texas A&M from East Texas," said head coach Kevin Sumlin, "And right now, we don't have that many guys (from East Texas) on our roster."

Part of the plan to change that started today, as Sumlin and other members of the Aggie coaching staff held a three-hour camp for high school players.

To current knowledge, it is the first time Texas A&M has done such an event.

Sumlin, hired this year to replace Mike Sherman, had signed several players to his programs during his times at Oklahoma and as head coach at the University of Houston.

He wants to keeps his programs stocked with East Texas talent.

"With our ties with this staff and the places that I have been the past years, we have had success with student-athletes from this area," said Sumlin, "And we want to kick that back up again."

The Aggies open the season on Thursday, August 30th, against Louisiana Tech at Independence Stadium in Shreveport.

The following week, on Sept 8th, the Aggies play their first ever SEC game, when they host Florida.
