COLLEGE STATION, TX -- Aggie sprinter Ameer Webb received his second Big 12 Athlete of the Week honor this indoor season after sweeping the 60 and 200 meter titles at the Texas A&M Invitational this past weekend.

Webb ran a collegiate-leading time of 20.79 seconds in leading a A&M 1-2-3 sweep of the 200. His time is second fastest among Americans and fourth on the 2012 world list. In the 60 meters Webb ran 6.70 to lead another 1-2-3 sweep of the event for the Aggies. Webb leads the Big 12 with a season best of 6.66 seconds in the shorter sprint.

“I’m very excited with that time,” noted Webb. “I didn’t think I would run that fast. I just wanted to get something better that the 20.9s I had been running. I’m glad it’s the number one time among collegians. I attacked the curve different in that race and made some little adjustments I needed to change from the last meet I ran to make my time faster.

“It was great to sweep the 60 and 200 with my teammates. That’s what Michael, PJ and I look for each time we race the 60 or 200.”

Cross County All-Academic
Texas A&M distance runner Kevin Burnett received Division I All-Academic Cross Country status this past week as the recipients were named by United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have either earned USTFCCCA All-America status or finished in the NCAA region’s top 15 in 2011.

Burnett placed 15th as the fourth A&M runner in the South Central region meet held last November as the Aggies placed second as a team to earn an automatic placement in the NCAA Championship field. Texas A&M went on to place 18th in the NCAA meet, where Burnett finished third among the Aggie runners.
