COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M Baseball head coach Rob Childress will be inducted into the Northwood University Athletics Hall of Fame on November 10, 2012, his alma mater recently announced.

“We are very proud of Rob,” Northwood Director of Athletics Pat Malcheski said. “He has the unique qualities of strong leadership and genuine humility that have made him so successful. Rob was an outstanding leader on our teams as a player and a gifted recruiter as an assistant coach.”

Before his coaching career, Childress, who graduated from Harmony High School in Gilmer, Texas, attended Northwood where he was twice named an all-conference pitcher. Northwood won two NAIA conference championships during his career and was runner-up at the regional tournament once. Childress was elected the school's Academic Athlete of the Year as a sophomore and senior. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in business administration from Northwood in 1990.

Early in his coaching career, Childress served as an assistant for two years at Northwood under Malcheski, who was serving as the Knights’ head coach.

After serving as an assistant coach at Northwood, Childress went on to a head coaching job at Texarkana College (1994) and assistant coaching stints at Northwestern State (1995-97) and Nebraska (1998-05).

Since taking over as the Texas A&M head coach in 2006, Childress has led the Aggies to a 289-153-2 record, six consecutive NCAA Championship appearances (2007-12), two Big 12 regular-season titles (2008, ’11), three Big 12 Championship crowns (2007, ’10-11) and a College World Series appearance in 2011.

The Northwood Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies will be held at Knights Hall on the Cedar Hill, Texas campus at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 10.
