Collegiate Rugby National Championships Begin Friday At Texas A&M

COLLEGE STATION, TX -- The Texas A&M Rugby Team will host the 2012 USA Collegiate 7s Rugby National Championships on Friday and Saturday at Penberthy Club Sports Complex (West campus, next to the Tennis Center) from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm both days. A $5.00 entry fee covers both days of the competition.

The national championship will feature 24 men’s teams with a total of 64 matches over two days of intense Olympic 7s competition. The field for this year’s competition is extremely strong with teams from all around the country earning their way in – providing spectators with some entertaining games to watch.

Aggie Rugby is currently ranked 8th in the nation and have won the last four tournaments they have played in, finishing the fall 7s season with an 18-1 record. They defeated Georgia 24-12 to win the SEC 7s championship in November. The Aggies have a high-scoring offense (averaging almost 32 points per game) and a stingy defense (allowing only 8 points per game). The Aggies open pool play on Friday morning at 10:20 am against Bowling Green. Please join us for what will prove to be an thrilling rugby event!
