Courtney Walker was named to the SEC Preseason First Team, according to a vote of the leagues’ women’s basketball coaches. The Aggies were voted to finish in a tie for fifth in the league in the same poll.
Walker was a SEC All-Freshman Team selection a year ago, and is the Aggies’ leading returning scorer after averaging 10.4 points per game in 2012-13. During Texas A&M’s run to the SEC Tournament Championship, Walker increased her scoring to 13.0 points per game and was named to the All-SEC Tournament team.
Texas A&M was voted in a tie for fifth in the SEC with South Carolina. Tennessee was tabbed as the league’s favorite, and the Lady Vols’ Meighan Simmons was selected as the SEC Preseason Player of the Year.
The Aggies open the 2013-14 campaign on Nov. 11 at North Texas. Reed Arena hosts the Aggies’ home opener on Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. against Prairie View A&M.
