COLLEGE STATION, TX -- Texas A&M softball seniors Mel Dumezich and Meagan May were named to the 2013 Preseason All-SEC team, the conference office announced today.

This marks the first Southeastern Conference individual awards for Aggie softball players, as A&M joined the conference in July of 2012. May (Spring, Texas) was named to the list as a catcher, while Dumezich (Whiting, Ind.) earned her spot as a utility player and designated player.

May returns for her senior season to lead the Aggies from behind the plate, and will be an anchor in the batter’s box as well. The power hitter rocked the Big 12 with a conference record 24 home runs as a freshman, earning All-America honors. May is a two-time All-Big 12 honoree and a 2011 Pan Am Games gold medalist with the USA Women’s National Team. She recorded 37 RBI and 14 home runs in 2012 for a .580 slugging percentage, while her 0.95 walks ranked fourth in the nation at the end of the season.

Dumezich completes the defensive duo with May calling her pitches from the plate. The right-handed pitcher will face the SEC for the first time after stunning the Big 12 as both a pitcher and a power hitter. Dumezich recorded a 2.01 ERA (1.91 Big 12) in 59 starts and 31 complete games last season, pitching eight shutouts and fanning 307 batters. She has found herself on the All-Big 12 team each season of her A&M career, and owns three conference player-of-the-week honors and two spots on the NFCA/Louisville Slugger All-Central Region first team. Dumezich has proved her strength in the circle and at the plate - at the end of her junior season, Dumezich ranked 10th in the country in home runs (20) and 12th in strikeouts thrown.

May and Dumezich will lead the No. 17 Aggies, picked to finish third in the SEC West, onto the field in Los Angeles on Feb. 8 for the beginning of the 2013 season. To learn more about Texas A&M softball, log on to AggieAthletics.com and follow @AggieSoftball on Twitter.
