Dumezich Tabbed All-American for Second Time

Texas A&M softball junior Mel Dumezich was named a Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American for the second time in as many years, the organization announced.

The Whiting, Ind., native took honors on the NFCA All-America third team as a utility player/pitcher after an outstanding season in the circle and at the plate for the Aggies. Dumezich is the only current player with two distinctions, as she was named second team All-America in 2011.

The right-handed ace was named to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-Central Region first team for the third time in-a-row this season and garnered honors on the All-Big 12 first team and the All-College Station Regional Team.

Dumezich (28-13) tossed 307 strikeouts on the season and recorded eight solo shutouts and a 2.01 ERA in the circle while leading the Aggies to their 11th-straight NCAA Tournament appearance and a No. 8 national seeding. Her .306 average at the plate ranked second on the team as she led A&M with 20 home runs and 47 RBI.

In the most recent national statistical summary (through games of May 27), Dumezich ranks 15th among her peers in home runs per game (0.34) and victories (28), ninth in home runs and 11th in strikeouts thrown.

Dumezich will return as a senior in 2012 to lead the Aggies through their first season in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). To learn more about Texas A&M softball, log on to AggieAthletics.com and follow @AggieSoftball on Twitter.
