LONDON – Track and field at Olympic Stadium begins on Friday and will occur daily through August 12 with eight Texas A&M athletes participating.

Scheduled to compete first among the Aggie crew is Kanika Beckles in the women’s 400 meters on Friday, but a recent report indicated she was injured in practice this week and may not run. Beckles, competing for Grenada, is slated for lane three in heat five. The top three in each heat, plus the next three fastest times move on to Saturday’s semifinal.

On Saturday, the men’s first round of the 400 will include three Aggie sprinters. Demetrius Pinder of the Bahamas, Tabarie Henry, the flag bearer for U.S. Virgin Islands, and Deon Lendore of Trinidad, who completed his freshman year at Texas A&M. In the men’s 100 prelims on Saturday, Gerald Phiri will represent Zambia.

Pinder placed second during the 2012 World Indoor meet in March while Henry finished fourth. Henry was also fourth in 2009 World Outdoor final and a semifinalst during the 2008 Olympics held in Beijing.

Sunday will see incoming junior Janeil Bellille compete for Trinidad in the 400 hurdles while Wayne Davis II, also competing for Trinidad, will contest the 110 hurdles on Tuesday, Aug. 7.

Relay action will begin on Aug. 9 with the men’s 4 x 400, which will involve Pinder with the Bahamas and Lendore with Trinidad, as well as the women’s 4 x 100, where Jeneba Tarmoh is part of the United States relay pool.
