Texas A&M sophomore Simon Frank broke the men's 400-yard individual medley school record Friday at the American Short Course Championships in Austin, Texas.
Frank is coming off of a fourth place finish in the event and first in the 200-yard individual medley at the Big 12 Championships, the highest finish of his career. Frank dropped more than three seconds in Austin to take second in the A final behind Florida State swimmer Juan Sequrea.
The time, of 3:47.71, is more than seven seconds faster than the necessary NCAA "B" cut qualifying time of 3:54.86. Frank's new record outplacs current A&M member Omar Enriquez, who set the record with a time of 3:49.33 in 2010.
Frank will await the NCAA announcements to find if he will be invited to the 2012 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships.
