COLLEGE STATION, TX -- Texas A&M junior offensive tackle Luke Joeckel was named to the 2012 Preseason All-America team by SportsIllustrated.com on Thursday.

Already on the preseason “watch lists” for the Outland Award and the Rotary Lombardi Award, the 6-foot-6, 310-pound Arlington High School product was one of three offensive linemen from the Southeastern Conference on SI’s first team. In all, there were 14 SEC players on the first and second teams, including 10 on the first-team All-America squad.

Joeckel earned first-team all-conference honors last season in the Big 12 as the cornerstone of an Aggie offensive front that cleared the way for a record-setting offensive unit. The Aggies set school records for total offense, passing offense and scoring offense, while allowing just nine sacks in 13 games. A&M was one of just a handful of teams that ranked in the top 25 nationally in all four major offensive categories, ranking No. 7 in total offense (490.2 yards per game), No. 11 in scoring (39.1 points per game), No. 18 in passing (291.1 yards per game) and rushing (199.2 per game).
