JACKSONVILLE – The first-round selection is officially a member of the Jaguars.
Luke Joeckel, the No. 2 overall selection in the 2013 NFL Draft, on Saturday afternoon signed his rookie contract, becoming the fifth member of the Jaguars’ 2013 draft class to sign with the team.
Duration and terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Joeckel, who spent the recent organized team activities and minicamps transitioning from left tackle – where he started every game of his collegiate career at Texas A&M – to right tackle, became the third member of the draft class to sign his rookie contract this week.
He is expected to start at right tackle next season for the Jaguars, with five-year veteran Eugene Monroe staying on the left side. Joeckel and Jaguars coaches said during OTAs Joeckel’s transition has gone well.
Second-round safety Johnathan Cyprien (Florida International) and third-round cornerback Dwayne Gratz (Connecticut) signed their contracts Tuesday, with seventh-round cornerbacks Jeremy Harris (New Mexico State) and Demetrius McCray (Appalachian State) having signed earlier in the offseason.
All eight members of the Jaguars’ draft class participated fully in offseason workouts, with safety Josh Evans (sixth round, Florida), wide receiver Ace Sanders (fifth round, South Carolina) and Denard Robinson (fifth round, Michigan) remaining unsigned.
Jaguars General Manager David Caldwell said nine days ago at the conclusion of the Jaguars’ 2013 mandatory minicamp that he expected all eight draft selections signed in time for training camp, which will open July 26 at EverBank Field.
