COLLEGE STATION, TX -- The Texas A&M men’s basketball program announced Wednesday the signing of Tavario Miller, a highly-rated forward from Houston to a National Letter of Intent.

“Tavario is a good athlete that competes at a high level,” Texas A&M head coach Billy Kennedy said. “His ability to shoot the ball and make plays will help our team. He comes from a good program at Wheatley High School and I know Coach Patrick will have him prepared to help us in the SEC.”

The 6-foot-8 forward is currently a senior at Houston’s Wheatly High School where he is off to an outstanding start, averaging 36 points and 20 rebounds early in the year. Miller was honored as a second-team preseason all-city selection by the Houston Chronicle in addition to garnering all-district and all-region accolades last spring after a standout junior campaign.

As a junior a season ago, Miller averaged 14.8 points, 10.0 rebounds and 4.8 blocks per game to help lead WHS to a 26-10 record and a playoff appearance.

“Tavario has been a big-time leader for us as well as a great kid,” WHS coach Willie Patrick said. “He’s a hard worker and you always know that you’re going to get 110% from him on the court. He’s a tremendous rebounder and great inside player but he’s also got good range out to the 3-point line. He’s a big part of our program and he’s going to have to put us on his shoulders if we want to get to where we want to go.”

Miller is described by coaches and analysis as a tough and athletic forward who is a great rebounder and shot blocker.

Named a three-star recruit by both ESPN and Rivals.com, Miller was selected as the 18th best prospect in the state of Texas and the 43rd best power forward nationally by ESPN. He chose to sign with Texas A&M over South Carolina and Tulsa, among others.

Last week, Texas A&M announced the signing of Davonte Fitzgerald a 6-foot-7 forward from Tucker, Ga., who was also rated as a three-star recruit by multiple media outlets.
