PAIR OF AGGIES EARN ALL-BIG 12 HONORS

TEXAS A&M BASKETBALL
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Sunday, March 4, 2012

IRVING, Texas--Texas A&M senior David Loubeau and junior Elston Turner were honored Sunday as the All-Big 12 teams were announced by the conference office.

Both were honorable mention selections in a vote by the league’s head coaches. It is the second straight season Loubeau has been recognized, while Turner—in his first year of eligibility after redshirting last season—earns his first Big 12 accolade.

Loubeau, a 6-8 senior from Miami, finished the regular season third on the team in scoring (11.0 ppg) and rebounding (4.5 rpg). His field-goal percentage of 47.5 and free-throw percentage of 74.3 were both second-best on the squad, and he recorded 21 double-digit scoring games this winter. This season, Loubeau became one of only 16 players in school history to score 1,000 career points and grab 500 career rebounds.

Turner, a 6-5 junior from Sacramento, was the Aggies’ leading scorer and three-point shooter this year. He averaged 14.0 points, which ranks in the top 10 of the Big 12 leaderboard, and connected on 68 treys—one of the highest single-season totals in program history. Turner reached 20 points a team-best seven times and averaged 15 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists in seven games against top-15 opponents.

The official All-Big 12 awards are selected by the league’s head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own players.

Texas A&M (13-17) returns to the court as the No. 9 seed for this week's Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship. The Aggies will open play at Sprint Center in Kansas City on Wednesday at 6 p.m. (CT) against No. 8-seed Oklahoma (15-15). The game will air on the Big 12 Network.
