COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Juniors Rafael Pineda and Jason Jester were both selected on the third day of the 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Saturday.
Pineda was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 30th round with the 897th overall pick. Jester was selected with the following pick (# 898) by the San Diego Padres.
Pineda was previously selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 40th round of the 2012 MLB First-Year Player Draft.
In his second season in the Maroon and White, Pineda posted a 6-5 mark with a 3.23 ERA on 69.2 innings.
Jester set the Texas A&M record for saves in a single season with 14, one better than the previous mark of 13. The junior posted a 3-4 record with an ERA of 2.47. The right-hander struck out 39 to only 12 walks in 47.2 innings of work and held opponents to a .200 batting average, which was tops for the team.
Three Aggie signees were selected on the third day of the draft. Ryan Hendrix, a right-handed pitcher from Livingston was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 17th round with the 501st overall pick. Ronnie Gideon, a third basemen from Hallsville was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 35th round with the 1039th overall pick and Tyler Stubblefield, a left handed pitcher from Lufkin was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 36th round with the 1093rd overall pick.
Yesterday, Mikey Reynolds and Kyle Martin were selected by the Atlanta Braves and the Boston Red Sox, respectively. Reynolds was taken in the fifth round with the 163rd overall selection while Martin’s name was called in the ninth round with the 263rd overall selection.
