Reports: Texas A&M Athletic Director Bill Byrne's Contract Won't Be Renewed

COLLEGE STATION, TX -- Rumors have been surfacing for several months concerning the future of Texas A&M Athletic Director Bill Byrne. Following a sports symposium on the Texas A&M campus where University President Dr. R. Bowen Loftin was a part of the panel discussion, Loftin told a small group of media members that Byrne would not serve past his current contract which expires August 31, 2013.

Chuck Carlton of the Dallas Morning News tweeted that Loftin said, "At some point, you have to make a transition".

Loftin also said no timetable had been discussed about Byrne's successor.
