PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – Texas A&M senior Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar posted a pair of straight-set victories today to advance to the semifinals in the singles back draw at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships at the Riviera Tennis Club.
Sanchez-Quintanar, an A&M record-high No. 4 in the ITA rankings, defeated 13th-ranked Jacqueline Cako of Arizona State, 6-3, 6-1, in the first round and then topped No. 23 Abigail Tere-Apisah of Georgia State, 6-2, 6-0 to advance to the semifinals.
The senior from Campo de Criptana, Spain, will face 89th-ranked Aleksandra Josifoska of UNLV Saturday at 12 p.m. (PT).
Singles semifinalists, doubles finalists and consolation champions will receive automatic entry into the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships Nov. 8-11 in Flushing, N.Y.
Aggie junior and 17th-ranked Cristina Stancu came from behind to defeat 43rd-ranked Lucia Batta of UNLV, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, in the first round but was eliminated in the quarterfinals after falling to No. 19 Joelle Kissell of North Carolina State, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.
