COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M’s Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar did not drop a set en route to winning the Blue bracket at the Duke Fab Four Invitational this weekend in Cary, N.C.

Ranked No. 4 in the nation, the senior from Campo de Criptana, Spain, defeated No. 55 Caroline Rohde-Moe of Ole Miss, 6-2, 6-4, in the final today to finish the tournament 4-0.

“Cristina’s final match was one of the better matches I have seen in college tennis,” A&M second-year head coach Howard Joffe said. “Both players played extremely well and competed and conducted themselves great.”

In other action, A&M’s Cristina Stancu defeated Maya Jansen of Alabama, 6-3, 6-3, to take third place in the Black bracket. In addition, senior Wen Sun picked up a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Anika Cepeda of William and Mary in the consolation bracket.

Sun and freshman Stefania Hristov reached the semifinals of the Black doubles bracket before falling to Ashley Dai and Whitney Kay of North Carolina, 8-3.

Meanwhile, Aggie freshman Anna Mamalat had an impressive debut at the Midland Racquet Collegiate Invitational in Midland, Texas, picking up two ranked wins and advancing to the semifinals. From Philadelphia, Mamalat defeated 56th-ranked and No. 3 seed Stephanie Tan of TCU in the Round of 16 on Friday. Late yesterday, Mamalat knocked off No. 105 Rashmi Teltumbde of Texas Tech, 6-3, 6-4, in the quarterfinals. Mamalat was eliminated in the semifinal round after falling to 52nd-ranked Petra Januskova of Penn State, 6-0, 6-1.
